The John Lennon Wall

2007 November 4

In Lesser Town in Prague there is a very small and hidden side street. You always happen upon it unexpectedly when you are lost. All of a sudden you turn a corner and there it is. There is an explosion of colorful graffiti plastered upon the side of a building.

The John Lennon wall was started around the time of Lennon’s death in 1982 and has stood as a symbol of peace, love and defiance against the now defunct communist regime that ruled over the Czech Republic for many decades. People come from all over the world now to write their own messages on the wall. We saw French, Latin, Spanish, Korean and Chinese among other languages along with lyrics from the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, and Radiohead.
